Focus: Various NDE techniques are introduced for the inspection castings including radiography, eddy current, magnetic particle, liquid die penetrant, and ultrasonics. Several speakers will describe these techniques in terms of their application to the foundry industry. Discussion will include determining what techniques are best suited to various foundry processes and casting types. Other topics included are automated visual inspection systems and forensic failure analysis.

This night was the culmination of lots of hard work by our Auction Committee. The auction was a great success. With everyone in attendance enoying the evening. There was some spirited bidding, especially in the Live Auction. Thanks to Tim Smelko and Eric Porter for taking over the auctioneering duties at the last minute. The Silent Auction, Live Auction, Raffle, 50-50, and the ‘Deck o’ Cards’ Game raised a total of $5000. This money goes to our Scholarship Fund to help deserving students enrolled in foundry related courses in Ontario Universities and Colleges. The scholarship will be awarded during our Scholarship Night March 22, 2012 at the Waterfront Centre in Hamilton. Everyone is invited to attend.

2011 College Industry Conference
The FEF College slots online Industry Conference was recently held at the Westin Michigan Avenue in Chicago. Over 275 industry executives, student delegates, key professors and university administrators were in attendance this year.
The conference began on Thursday, November 17, with the Career Information Session which gave 85 student delegates the opportunity to interact with representatives of 42 companies in the metal casting industry. The Information Session and social time before and after the event is structured to facilitate the sharing of job opportunities and to connect students to potential employers in the industry.
As part of the luncheon this year 19 students were awarded scholarships totaling $40,500. Additionally, the Keith Millis and Ron Ruddle scholarship recipients were announced.
Mohawk College, In Hamilton, Ontario, is one of 20 Certified Colleges in North America recognized and supported by the FEF. The FEF sponsored five Mohawk students to attend the College Industry Conference. The students attending were: Wade Marquardt, Randy McNabb, Scott Cumming, Justin Tiffany and Kyle Rusk. These students represented Mohawk very well with 2 of the 19 scholarships going to Mohawk students. Congratulations to Justin Tiffany and Kyle Rusk.

Looking at these figures based on tonnage per plant shows some interesting figures. China produces 1,523 tons per facility, India 2011 tons, USA 4,000 tons and Canada 12,800 tons.

From Toronto: Take Highway 403 to the Highway 8 West Main St. Exit. At the traffic lights at the top of the ramp turn right. Proceed on Main St. West and then turn right onto Longwood Road South.
From Niagara: Follow the Queen Elizabeth Way Eastbound over the Burlington Skyway Bridge. Take Highway 403 West towards Hamilton, and exit as described above in the directions coming from Toronto.
From Kitchener – Waterloo: Take Highway 401East to Highway 6 South to Highway 403 West, and exit at Highway 8 Main Street Exit as described in the directions coming from Toronto. Or take Highway 8 to the Town of Dundas; proceed along King Street straight through the town – this will become Highway 12 (Cootes Drive). Turn left onto Main Street, continue 1.5 kilometers and turn right onto Longwood Road South.
From Brantford and London: From Brantford, take Highway 403 East to the Aberdeen Street exit, and turn left onto Longwood Road South.
